2020 Priorities include improved communication, fiscal responsibility and accountability

FISHERS, Ind., January 23, 2020 – Jocelyn Vare took the oath of office on Tuesday evening, January 21 in front of a packed house at Fishers City Hall. One of two Democrats elected to the Council, the first in the City’s history, Vare earned her seat as a result of unprecedented bipartisan support from the community, including the Fiscal Conservatives of Hamilton County. Among her early priorities, Vare plans to focus on improved communication between City Council and residents and fiscal responsibility, including fair economic development incentives and data analysis for accountability.

The impact of Vare’s emphasis on improved communication during the campaign and immediately upon taking office could already be seen at the first City Council meeting of the year, where new video monitors were installed to make it easier for the public to follow along during the proceedings.

“For the first time in our City’s history, we have bipartisan representation on the City Council,” said Councilor Vare. “We have a unique opportunity to demonstrate the possibilities of a balanced perspective in government and collaborate to serve the best interest of our community. I’m ready to get to work for the residents of Fishers.”

In December, Vare announced new ways for Fishers residents to share concerns and ideas for the community with her, including the continuation of her Listen to Fishers hotline where residents can leave messages, Ask Me Anything events on Facebook, an email newsletter and weekly office hours at Launch Fishers.
